Synopsis

The Doctor of Philosophy programme is entirely research-based. Research topic can covers multi-disciplines in science and technology related fields. It provides comprehensive training in a particular subject area through authentic exploration and experimentation, culminating in the preparation of a thesis of the research undertaken. Submission of a thesis that demonstrates the candidate's capacity of independent advanced research to the satisfaction of the faculty is a requirement of the PhD. The thesis must be first approved by Thesis Examiners Committee consisting of an internal examiner and at least two external examiners. Upon recommendation to the Senate of UiTM by the faculty and the Institute of Graduate Studies, the degree of PhD is conferred on candidates who have demonstrated substantial scholarship, high attainment in a particular field of knowledge, and an ability to do independent investigation and presentation results of their research.

 

Entry Requirements

  • Master degree from UiTM in the area of specialization to be pursued; OR
  • Master degree from other universities or any equivalent qualification from an institution approved by UiTM
  • A candidate applying for admission into this programme is required to submit a research proposal to the faculty. The acceptance of a candidate shall be at the discretion of the UiTM senate, whose decision shall be final.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS (BY RESEARCH)

The Faculty of Applied Sciences, UiTM is currently offering fourteen (14) Master of Science programs and one (1) Doctor of Philosophy (Science) program. The program objectives are to provide graduates with advanced knowledge, capabilities to deal with complex scientific problems and solve problems effectively in their respective fields while at the same time facilitating discovery and contributing new knowledge.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

i)    Master of Science Programs
•    A minimum of a second class Honours Degree or CGPA of 2.75 in a science-related field from UiTM or any institution of higher learning recognised by the UiTM          Senate; or
•    A bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of between 2.50 and 2.75 can be considered subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
•    An equivalent qualification to an Honours Degree in a science-related field recognised by the UiTM Senate together with relevant experience.


ii)  Doctor of Philosophy Programs

•   A master’s degree in a related discipline.

*Less qualified students may be accepted if they have proof of relevant and significant work experience in industry or the public sector.
